New Arrivals
Just in and ready for their new home.
This wood came from a Walnut tree that fell in The Great Derecho Storm of 2020 that hit Cedar Rapids, IA. This was the costliest thunderstorm in US History totaling over $12 billion dollars in damage. Most of the damage occurring in the state of Iowa. This storm also destroyed 70% of the tree canopy of Cedar Rapids, leaving the landscape of the city completely changed.
For Spring Run Design we will always remember this storm and as we witnessed it firsthand. Our hope now is that we can turn the destruction of all those trees into something beautiful and useful that will be passed down for generations.
Size: 16 inches long
Back story of the piece of wood:
This Cedar wood was milled by a surgeon who happened to be logger on the side. The trees were harvested and milled in the woods just outside of Mt. Vernon, IA where they sat and air dried in the attic of a stone cabin near those woods in Mt. Vernon for the next 25 years. The wood was given to Spring Run Design in 2017 in the hopes we could create beautiful woodworking out of the lumber.
Hand finished with 3 coats of marine grade varnish with the grip finished in boiled linseed oil, and hand rubbed with beeswax for that ultra smooth grip and feel.
